accountability advisor
an AI complaint drafting tool for communities harmed by internationally financed projects
00

problem
Internationally financed projects — dams, mines, pipelines, and increasingly renewable energy initiatives — are notorious for environmental and human rights abuses, from forced displacement to poisoned water supplies. Formal accountability mechanisms exist to hear complaints, but filing one is complex, document-heavy, and written in the language of institutional policy. The people who most need access to justice face the greatest barriers: limited information, the least political power, and few resources to navigate a process designed without them in mind.
solution
Accountability Advisor is an AI-powered complaint drafting tool that helps communities and advocates prepare submissions to MICI, the IDB Group's independent accountability mechanism. It uses retrieval-augmented generation over Accountability Counsel's curated library of process documentation, policy references, eligibility criteria, and complaint templates — making years of institutional knowledge accessible on demand. Users describe their situation in plain language; the tool helps structure it into a coherent, submission-ready draft.
Accountability Counsel exists to shift power back to communities — the people who know the impact of an investment on their land and lives best. Their vision is a world where access to accountability doesn't require connections, resources, or luck. Advisor extends that mission by making their years of complaint expertise available to anyone, anywhere, at any time.

Accountability Counsel works alongside communities whose rights, livelihoods, and environment are threatened by the world's most powerful investors — holding nearly $12 trillion a year in global finance accountable to human rights and environmental standards. For years, their advocates have helped communities draft and file complaints to mechanisms like MICI, building a deep library of policy knowledge and procedural expertise along the way. But demand for that direct support far outstrips what any team can provide.
Advisor was the answer to a straightforward question: what if that expertise didn't require a person on the other end? Rather than replacing direct advocacy, the tool lowers the barrier to entry — encoding what Accountability Counsel knows into a guided experience so more communities can start on their own terms, arriving with a stronger foundation already in place.
